

Work has also been done on the formulation of Suriname’s first National Adaptation Plan (NAP). The NAMA has already been technically completed and approved. These areas have been chosen because they fall within the policy plans of both the Ministry of Regional Development (RO) and the Ministry of Natural Resources (NH). The selected areas are Stoelmans Island and Snesikondre. The focus was on the electrification of the interior. The Energy sector was chosen from the two sectors. These are the two sectors that Suriname has included in its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC), to the Paris Agreement in 2015. The most important sectors were the Energy and Forestry sector. It was decided to work with a sectoral approach for the NAMA. Suriname’s first Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMA) has been formulated. The following results have been achieved in the past 4-year period: Outcome 3: Strengthened knowledge networks through shared South-South and North-South experiences.Outcome 2: Adoption and implementation of mitigation and adaptation technologies.Outcome 1: Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) to promote alternative low-emission and climate-resilient technologies.The Japan-Caribbean Climate Change Partnership encourages policy innovation via the following outcomes: The national coordination of this project lies with NIMOS. The Participating countries include: Belize, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, the Republic of Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and the Republic of Suriname. The Japan-Caribbean Climate Change Partnership (J-CCCP) is designed to strengthen the capacity of countries in the Caribbean to invest in climate change mitigation and adaptation technologies, as prioritized in their Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). The initial period for this project was two years but due to many circumstance the project period was extended to December 2019. J-CCCP is funded by the Government of Japan and is implemented by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Sub regional Office for Barbados and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
